BRAZILIAN AIR FORCE BASES - FAB AIRBASES

5)FLORIANOPOLIS AFB

Florianopolis was located at the State of Santa Catarina in the southern region. Initially established as a Naval Air Facility in 1941 it was converted into an Airbase and in Nov/42 it was designated the 14th Airbase Corp. During the war that facility paid relevant services to the Armed Forces when their aircraft flew over the south Atlantic in several patrol sweeps and convoy escort duties. Florianopolis operated with 5 aircraft.

It's noteworthy to mention that the FW58 and Grumman J4F were not built for ASW operations and lacked in both updated equipment like a search radar, and racks for depth charges, their presence over the convoy routes certainly contributed to stave off a submarine commander to emerge and attack any merchant.
