Official US Navy photograph taken in 12/10/43 after the US Navy released the news that this particular aircraft the Martin Mars broke the World Record for cargo transport and over-water distance flight. She had just completed a 4,375 mile non-stop flight from NAS Patuxent River, Maryland to NAF Natal, Brazil in  28 hours 25 minutes duration.  Her cargo was 13,000 pounds of Christmas mail outbound, and strategic war materials inbound. 4,375 miles covered in 28 hours. Martin Mars maiden flight showed how vital would be that aircraft to the Pacific theater where distances were even bigger.
